🔆 Volunteer with our Food Distribution Program!🔆
Are you passionate about making a difference in your community and helping others? If so, we invite you to volunteer with our Food Distribution Program!
The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is a local non-profit charitable organization in Waterloo Region. The Stanley Park Community Association in partnership with The Food Bank provides a weekly hamper service at the community centre. Volunteers will work as a team to provide quality customer service to the patrons utilizing the food hamper program.
Duties include:
- - Working with a team of volunteers to physically set-up the mobile program
- - Plan and organize with the team so that food is re-stocked as food is taken
- - Providing friendly customer service to patrons at every step of the process
- - Providing information on additional community resources available
- - Please note that due to the nature of the service, the role is performed mostly outdoors and runs even in inclement weather
Roles Include:
- - Food Counter Attendant: answer questions about products available, ensure quantities are taken in reasonable amounts
- - Food Counter Cashier: ensure clients cash in their tokens, ensure clients receive the food they need before they leave the premises
- - Inventory Clerk: ability to gauge product levels in order to restock before food supply is depleted, ability to lift up to 30 pounds, ability to move on and off the food truck in order to bring stock to the shelves
- - Program Set-Up & Clean-Up: assist with setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and stanchions to ensure a smooth food distribution, help organize food bins on the truck, and support overall program readiness before, during and after the event
- - Client Registration – Administration: greet clients, confirm registration and eligibility, provide tickets and program information, and help ensure a fast and organized registration process
- - Client Registration – Line Assistant: help clients line up by ticket number, guide new clients through the registration process, collect completed forms, and ensure the line moves efficiently and smoothly
Time Commitment:
- - Approximately 2 hours each week during the day (Wednesdays 10:15 am-12:15 pm)
Qualifications
- - An empathetic and understanding attitude
- - Lived experience with food insecurity an asset
- - Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- - Ability to communicate with people who do not speak English fluently
- - Punctual, reliable, and dependable
