Join our team to pick up and deliver donated baked goods from COBS Bread. This is a great opportunity to volunteer with a friend or family member and make a direct impact through the Stanley Park Eats program.
Position Overview:
Support the Stanley Park Eats food program by picking up surplus baked goods from COBS Bread and delivering them to the Stanley Park Community Centre, where they will be redistributed to community members in need. Volunteers will work as part of a team and be scheduled on a rotating basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- ● Coordinate and carry out the weekly pickup of donated baked goods from COBS Bread on behalf of the Stanley Park Community Association.
- ● Work in pairs with another volunteer to complete pickups safely and efficiently, supporting one another during packing, lifting, and delivery.
- ● Use a personal vehicle to travel to the donor site.
- ● Sort and pack donated food items according to established guidelines to ensure safe and organized transport.
- ● Deliver donated products to the Stanley Park Community Centre and assist with unloading and organizing items for redistribution.
- ● Follow food safety and hygiene practices during all handling, packing, and delivery of food items.
- ● Communicate regularly with the Stanley Park Eats Coordinator regarding pickups, delivery issues, or volunteer needs.
- ● Attend meetings as needed and contribute feedback to help improve the efficiency and impact of the food donation program.
- ● Participate in required training sessions related to health and safety, accessibility, and program procedures.
- ● Promote a respectful and inclusive environment while representing the Stanley Park Community Association in the community
Time Commitment:
- ● Pickups take place Tuesday evenings from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Volunteers will be scheduled on a rotating basis.
Qualifications:
- ● Access to a personal vehicle with sufficient space to transport large bins (e.g., SUV, minivan, or large trunk space).
- ● Ability to lift and carry heavy bins; role involves frequent bending, lifting, and loading/unloading.
- ● Punctual, dependable, and comfortable working independently and in a team of two.
- ● A desire to support local food sustainability and reduce food waste.
Training and Professional Development:
- ● Basic Health and Safety, AODA and evacuation training provided
- ● Facility Tour and overview of programs and events
- ● Training in specific software used by the Association
- ● Training and orientation will be provided by the Volunteer Engagement Manager or Stanley Park Eats Coordinator within 2 weeks of acceptance of the position
Supervision and Accountability:
- ● Ongoing check-ins to monitor tasks
