Summer Market Support Committee Member


Term: April - September 

Commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per week (higher during July & August market season) & bi-weekly committee meetings (approx. 2 hours a month)


About the Summer Market

The Stanley Park Community Centre hosts an 8-week Summer Market on Thursday evenings (5-8pm) from July to August. The market includes vendors and community organizations, a produce stand, food trucks, a beer garden, live musicians, and family activities such as bouncy castles. The Summer Market Support Committee plays a key role in ensuring the success of this well-loved community event. 


Role Overview:

As a Summer Market Support Committee Member, you will help plan, organize and support the logistics of the summer market season. Working closely with the Market Lead, you will take responsibility for one or more of the areas of the market - including vendor support, produce stand, food trucks, beer garden, entertainment, and family activities. 

This is a volunteer position requiring planning work prior to July and on-site support during market nights. 


Key Responsibilities:

Committee responsibilities will be divided across members, but may include: 

  • - Produce Stand - Coordinate weekly pickup, manage inventory, and oversee volunteers at the stand.
  • - Logistics - Support weekly market setup and teardown (tents, tables, signage, waste bins, etc.) and troubleshoot onsite issues.
  • - Food & Entertainment - Book and coordinate food trucks, beer garden, and weekly musicians/entertainers. 
  • - Vendor Support (Market Lead) - Managed directly by the Market Lead, with committee members assisting with setup, check-in, and vendor needs on market nights. 


Time Commitment: 

  • - Pre-season (April-June) - 2-3 hours per week for planning, bookings, and coordination & 2 hours a month to attend committee meetings. 
  • - Market season (July-August) - 5-6 hours per week, including the attendance at the Thursday evening market (5-8pm) plus setup and teardown.
  • - Post-season (September) - 2-3 hours per week for wrap-up, evaluation, and recommendations for next year.

  • - Strong organizational skills and reliability. 
  • - Comfort communicating with vendors, entertainers, and volunteers. 
  • - Ability to work as part of a team.
  • - Flexibility and problem-solving skills during busy market evenings.
  •  - Enthusiasm for community-building events.
